Luke 23:39-43

Babbet & Tink: Their Stories

Luke 23:39-43 King James Version

"39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. 40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. 42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. 43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise."

The bible verses above speak of two thieves who were crucified along with Jesus. One of the thieves took advantage of his last chance, and Jesus assures him that he will be in paradise with Him. The other thief did not take advantage of his last chance.

In my life, I have been a part of many "last chances" for people.

Here are two such stories that I would like to share:

Babbet's Story

Tim Neff, Chaplian

Timothy Neff, Chaplain

Never in my life....before or after this particular instance, have I needed God's Grace, Mercy and forgiveness more than when Babbet faced her "Last Chance."

It was early on in my Ministry when I became aware of a young lady by the name of Babbet. During several encounters, I could tell she was a deeply troubled soul. On this particular day after morning services at church, I followed my heart and reached out to her as we were greeting everybody at the door.
It was around 1:00 in the afternoon when we stepped aside and began a conversation. Then, for an instant I allowed myself to be distracted, therefore our encounter was brief, cut short.

The next morning at 12:30 a.m., I received a call; Babbet was found to have taken her own life... A tragic, needless suicide.

I missed an opportunity...I failed GOD miserably, the worst failure of my life. I have needed God's grace and mercy and forgiveness for many things, none more than for my "Last Chance" with God's daughter Babbet.

Tink's Story

Tim Neff

Timothy Neff, Chaplain

Tink was my Friend and Brother. We first met in prison; Tink, an inmate, and me.

Well, I was a volunteer Chaplin and also a salesman for a fire protection company. Tink was on the fire crew and attended my Chapel services.

Upon his release we worked together at a few jobs. I can attest to the changes in his life, as can everyone who knew him. Tink took advantage of his "Last Chance."

Tink has now gone home to be with the Lord, but the memories of his inspiring life will last forever.
