Broken Rock Petroglyph

This Rock Art is a Petroglyph Is different from a pictograph. Pictographs are applied to a rock surface using a pigment. Petroglyphs are carved or scratched into the stone surface, in this case the rock art has been scratched through the desert varnish on the stone. Desert varnish is a Coating of oxides that forms on the surface of rocks in arid conditions and is usually very thin.
This one was found in Eastern San Diego County.
